We're in the middle of the decision process on purchasing a whole new backup system complete with deduplication storage appliance, WAN replication, etc.
We're hearing a lot of what we consider to be FUD from the vendors about each others products, specifically from the dedup vendors. I'd love to get some less biased opinions. So, if you're using a backup system with deduplication appliances, and are willing to share some info with me about pros/cons/etc of the devices you're using, please share! If you prefer to send it to me direct I can summarize the info for the list. I'm particularly interested in sites that deployed products from one vendor and replaced that product with another vendor either due to dissatisfaction or during a normal refresh cycle. I'm also interested in real world experience with WAN replication cross country (80ms RTT) and globally (250ms RTT). What were your replication windows and how much bandwidth did you require to replicate that data. (For background, we're looking at just over 30TB of storage in a deduplication device (at the largest site), with a total input dataset at that site of around 8TB with a daily change rate of under 1TB. Multiple appliances distributed globally, with data ingestion via OST, CIFS and NFS, over 10gig ethernet and 8gig fiber channel.) -David _______________________________________________ Tech mailing list Tech@lopsa.org http://lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/tech This list provided by the League of Professional System Administrators http://lopsa.org/
