On a system with VIA CLE266 graphics, X immediately crashes upon
startup.  I fixed
it by cherry-picking some commits from upstream xf86-video-openchrome; the
crash and the fix apply to both 6.1 and a recent snaphost.

xenocara/README, and that pointed me in the right direction:

It seems this is a fairly old version (0.2.906) of xf86-video-openchrome; I
found other people who were experiencing crashes with 0.3.3 had them resolved
with 0.4.0, but I'm guessing there are other lower-level things in xenocara
that need to be done before a newer openchrome could be imported?

Anyway, I browsed the upstream commit log and found some pre-0.4.0 commits
that moved around the call to ViaDoubleCheckCLE266Revision(); after
importing the
parts of those commits which are relevant to our version, the crash is FIXED!

Performance isn't great, probably due to EXA wanting drm (and kms?), etc., but
it isn't any worse than vesa(4), which has its own set of problems on this hw:
1) it pauses for about 40 seconds during startup, trying to probe modes & set
refresh rates (and Xorg uses 100% CPU during this time), which eventually fails
and it uses 60Hz
2) completely destroys the text consoles

openchrome(4) doesn't have those problems at least.  Dragging an xterm more
than a certain distance with the default crosshatch background slows everything
to a crawl, but doing xsetroot -solid somecolor speeds it back up.
