That would help. The non-efi setups will remain pretty stupid, lots of special cases. The long term idea is to have all that the installboot(8) binary. Yes it is written in C, and at first it feels wrong to recode simple shell script logic in C, but the reason is for easy reuseability outside of the installer environment.
