No opinion on the addition, but I don't think we ran into this in ports so far. There is software in ports which can use it but it can all work without too. (I know about zeek and asterisk's res_timing_kqueue, though we typically don't use the latter at all anyway as it has a pluggable timer implementation and the pthread timer seems more accurate).
