A time machine back up will not be visible on Windows as it will be stored in a Mac OS formatted drive. There is no way, that I am aware of that you can have a time machine backup visible to windows. Your best bet is to keep your time machine backup drive separate from a drive on which you wish to share data between machines. Your matchbook will be able to see windows format external drives fine so I would use a windows format drive for sharing between machines. Alternatively use online storage like the macAccess file server to share important files between machines

I will explain this subject below. Hello everyone. My name is Gary Price from Bolton in lancashire, England, United Kingdom. I have recently bought a new 2 terabyte external hard drive. Last year I bought a Macbook early 2008 off a friend. I have setup my external hard drive for Time Machine. For those who don't know Time Machine is like system restore for the Mac. When I was setting it up it told me to encrypt the disk. So I just followed the instructions. I have got a desktop running Windows7 64 bit. Now my external is encrypted, it will not show up in Windows explorer when I plugg it in! But the strange thing is that it shows up in Safely remove hardware. Please does anyone know if there is a way I can either de-crypt the backup which Time Machine has done, or the entire disk? I am asking this because I am soon going to be moving to Windows8, so I want to put a folder with my important stuff onto it! Many thanks I look forward to any responses. -- Gary Price E-mail and Facebook: [email protected] Skype/MSN: [email protected] Twitter: http://twitter.com/gazwprice ======================================= The Techno-Chat E-Mail forum is guaranteed malware, spyware, Trojan, virus and worm-free To modify your subscription options, please visit for forum's dedicated web pages located at http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/mailman/listinfo/techno-chat You can find an archive of all messages posted to the Techno-Chat group at either of the following websites: http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/pipermail/techno-chat/index.html Or: <http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]> you may also subscribe to this list via RSS.
