Personally I do not like reading in Browsers on my devices although clearly it
can be done.

For me especially with books I want more navigation options for chapters and
bookmarking etc.

On iOS - Voicedream Reader is what I use nearly all the time though iBooks is a
free option. Voicedream I like because you can easily navigate by time or book
percentage. Just swiping up or down on the play/pause button navigates by the
chosen navigation unit. Swiping up or down on the percentage box navigate in
increments of 5%
On Android I also use Voicedream Reader though it is not as good as on the iOS
side as it tends to be erratic at controlling speed of playback for some
voices. For this reason I also use 3MP Reader (I think that is what it is
called( - I might have to check. This is also a good reader but I have found no
way of deleting books from the library. For both readers on Android I find it
best to open the books directly from a File Explorer type program like Total
Commander or even the Dropbox app. The big selling point of Android readers for
me is the ability to use Eloquence speech.
On Windows I use QRead which is a paid app but has good screenreader support.
Pressing control H will normally bring up the book heading, normally including
chapters etc. You can navigate as if you werer for example in a word document.
Text Aloud Mp3 or its free alternative - I cannot remember its name Bannabolka
I think are options for conversion of ePub into mp3.

On the Mac side I used to use Stanza but support for modern ePub formats has
also become erratic with spurious characters being included. I personally find
iBooks flaky with frequent busy messages as well so I am not sure there is now
a problem free good Mac option though iBooks is the best of a bad bunch I
guess. Note that not everybody has the problems with iBooks that I encounter so
it might be fine for you.

Finally of course the Victor Reader Stream is an excellent ePub reader with
good button navigation options. The books will play with TTS when placed in
the $DTB folder.

Your option makes a great deal of sense as it can be applied universally and
I’ll be able to read the ePub titles I now have on my Sony Android phone
without any trouble at all.
