Using google Groups Replyto: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (ELECTRONICS

One of the techs asked me how to use google to get help with TV problems
and I thought a few of you guys may also find this useful (for repairing
anything)
**********************************************
I was referring to google GROUPS. Right below the big Google logo simply
click on Groups. Then you can type in the model no. of the TV (or
anything else) you are having trouble with and look at the results.
If you need help with a computer problem, type in (if this applies) the
exact error message, word for word and see if any one else has discussed
this problem. In many cases typing only the first few words will be good
enough since each message tends to be very different.
When more than one word is used always put them in quotes to greatly
minimize erroneous results).
If you need help with other problems, type the problem using the words
that you think others may have used and add your operating system like
this: "boots up too slow"+XP or "slow booting up"+"Windows 98" (or
Win98, or 98) - try rewording as many times as you need to get enough
results.
Always include these " or you tend to get too many results. For PC
problems it can be helpful to search the web And google Groups. Hardware
problem? Do a search using the PC model no. or motherboard model no.,
etc. along with a description of the problem (using the plus sign and
quotation marks as needed.
IMPORTANT WHEN USING GOOGLE GROUPS
1. To properly view the results click on "View Thread" which is at
the bottom left of each result. This is the easy way to see all the
results at once.
2. Whenever it says "View Thread (1 article)" you are usually wasting
your time looking at it since this is the person asking for help
and he got no replies.
3. When looking for help with TVs most of the results are from forums
not dealing with repair (look at the name
("comp.archives.ms-windows.announce" for example). If it says
"sci.electronics.repair" at the bottom left then it's a real TV
repair forum. That's what you want.
