Problem: hit by lightning, Q 601, 604 and 605 all shorted, can't seem to
find anything else.

fix for the 19" version....
Check the 150v zener near the HOT. Before powering up, place a 100w
light bulb in place of the fuse. If all is OK, the bulb will glow
normally. Also, I think I had an open resistor..but that info is at the
shop.

That model is listed in Sams # 4741 and 4762 (yes, the exact same model
in 2 different sams) and that power supply is the same they have used
for a couple years.

The PS schematic is the same as in Sams 4339, 4355, 4363, 4375, 4385,
4393, 4404, 4411 and others except the layout is different on the new
ones.

The only problem I have seen in these is shorted transistors, just check
them all, Q601, Q604, Q605, Q635 and Q695.

The power supply should run at 2/3 normal outputs when you plug it in.

Short Q693 base to cold ground to force on full if it does not turn on.

Always change all the bad transistors at once or they will self
destruct. Q601, the output, should be a C4423.

You can use others or an NTE for test purposes but they will overheat
and fail in a few days.

Be sure to check Q604 for short B to C, if it is the output will be very
high.

Customer brought two sets in after lightning.Kept this one, as it still
played because it was their only set, and was watchable.

I expected to find a bad main filter cap, and proposed to give one day
service.

They brought it this morning, but it appears to be a pincushion problem
rather than a power supply problem. Picture is bowed inward in the
center(horizontal) about an inch and a half on each side.
This is a flat screen. Any help, while I wait for the manual to come
in??

TIA
Walter
