I have a Quasar TV, model YTU9972CE chassis YAEDC146 with intermittant
loss of sound which happens for a fraction of a second but sometimes
only once in a while, like maybe once in an hour or once in a day. When
the sound blips out, the on-screen channel display appears and then
dissappears when the sound goes back to normal. It also appears that the
channel is about ready to de-tune when the channel display comes on, but
the channel stays put. It's as if the sound is being muted when a
channel change takes effect, but I'm not changing channels at all.
Again, this all lasts for only a fraction of a second and then
everything is back to normal operation.

I suspected either the micro or the IR remote receiver but with it the
problem happening like it does, it's hard to pinpoint. I have replaced
the micro and sprayed surrounding parts with freeze spray but didn't
help. Also unplugged the IR remote receiver from the main board to
eliminate that possibility and did some soldering on the board.

Does anyone have notes for similar models/symptoms?

The micro is ICO10 and is a 42 pin dip and labelled with # MN15247010A

I don't have a schematic - couldn't find it listed under SAMS but did
find it under RCC (Radio college of Canada manuals # 350). This might be
a Canadian only model/chassis number. TV was made in 1988. It is a 27"
set made by Panasonic.

Thanks for any help. --
