believe it or not, i completely agree with kendall that:
the name is not important. our idea is that we could describe all open
source data with interoperable metadata. at the time we started the LDP
was mostly on our minds and it was a good place to start since they
already have some documents with which to test our ideas. but yes the
OSWG, Debian, Red Hat releases, O'Reilly books or conference talks by Eric
Raymond could be represented by the same metadata, DTD and template if
we've done things right.
LDP Core tho is being used to describe the Core leaders of the LDP at the
present so we should stay away from that name so as not to cause
confusion. We were cloning the Dublin Core name originally as our work is
also, we hope Dublin Core compliant.
we do need people involved and we need a way to encourage that. our first
step was to go to the woodshed and hack out a starting point and beg for
comments. after some revisions, we hope to be set up to gather information
using the template or any other means so that we can have a metadata
repository to share.
Jane Greenberg is at the Dublin Core conference now and we hope will bring
back some ideas and involvement from that group as well.
we are not closed at all and welcome helpers and workers.
