Position: SQL - Oracle DBA Location: Houston, TX Duration: 6+ Months Contract to Hire Need only GC/Citizens The application support analyst provides comprehensive front-line support of all applications to the user base ensuring best practice is applied to system support, upgrades, testing and procedures. As one of the interfaces between the business and the various IT departments, an understanding of the business context in which the trading applications are deployed is of paramount importance. The application support analyst also provides 24x7 first-line support. This will entail close interaction with all areas of the business from front to back-office. Qualifications - Essential: - Strong Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server skills (SQL, stored procedures, debugging and performance tuning) - Minimum 3 years experience on a first-line support desk assuming responsibility for front office production applications preferably in a commodity trading or investment banking environment. - Flexibility to align work hours with business processes (i.e. early starts ~ 7 am) and after hours system deployments/upgrades Desirable: - .NET (C# or VB) development experience - Advanced Excel (incl. VBA) The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate: - Ability to work with demanding users in a fast paced trading environment. - Ability to communicate across different levels of the business (for example, trading desks and development team members). - Strong understanding of change control processes, time management and attention to detail. - Flexibility to handle multiple work streams at any one time. - Ability to work with minimal direction on multiple tasks - The ability to work independently or on a team and excellent multi-tasking skills - Ability to complete work within assigned deadlines - Ability to provide reliable and informative project status to supervisors and clients - Experience in supporting a 7 x 24 hour environment - Ability to manage time and work well under pressure - A creative, innovative approach to problem solving - Proven ability to understand a customer's business environment and processes Education - Candidates have typically obtained a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and/or experience Communication - Exceptional client relation skills - Excellent organizational, analytical, as well as oral and written communication skills - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) - Strong critical thinking and analysis, meeting facilitation, verbal and written communications, and interpersonal interactions skills - Desired candidate will have a good working relationship with IT personnel and the Company's business community - Ability to read, digest and communicate complex subject matter to all levels Business - Have analytical problem solving skills Responsibilities - Diagnose and resolve day-to-day live system issues in custom application code, custom interfaces, database data and code. - Effectively record and monitor progress of all issues raised, providing feedback to the business users as required. - Liaise with other support/development teams - Application database management, software installation/patch management, data import/export and system integration, custom report creation and support and general system administration. - Other projects and duties as assigned - Ability to travel as required.
