Location: Columbia, SC Duration: 4 mos Candidate will provide technical support and consultation services for the support and maintenance of IDMS database systems and related 3rd-party tools running in an IBM mainframe z/OS environment. The DBA requested must have an in-depth knowledge of Computer Associates IDMS product with the ability to install, upgrade said product. Client is currently running 5 production IDMS systems, 8 development/test/QA systems, and 2 sandbox systems. The DBA will be responsible for maintenance, performance tuning and upgrades of all IDMS systems. The DBA will also be responsible for database maintenance (restructures, unload/reloads, etc.) for the IDMS systems (2 production and 1 test). The DBA may also be required to provide occasional assistance with security administration tasks and ADS/O application migrations for the IDMS systems. Specific Duties and Responsibilities 1. Upgrade IDMS Release 16 at Service Pack 1 to Release 17. 2. Monitor and tune all IDMS systems to include buffer tuning. 3. Maintain and/or install the following third-party products used with IDMS: Fast/Access, PreAlert, Hourglass, HSL Date Simulator, and Schema Plus. 4. Check on space utilization for IDMS databases. 5. Run regular IDMSDBANs to check client databases for broken chains. 6. Troubleshoot and resolve problems, utilizing CA support when necessary. 7. Perform database maintenance tasks for client databases as needed (unload/reloads, restructures, etc.) 8. Provide assistance with IDMS security administration tasks for client IDMS systems as needed. 9. Provide assistance with migrating ADS/O, DC COBOL, and batch COBOL application changes from client test systems to production systems as needed 10. Perform necessary tasks to set up test databases to mirror production databases as needed. 11. Research and implement any new features that would improve the performance and efficiency of any IDMS systems maintained by client 12. Add, modify, and delete printer and destination definitions for client IDMS systems as requested. SKILLS REQUIRED: Skills and Abilities that the Data Architect should possess include: * Extensive knowledge of the support and implementation of CA-IDMS product with extensive knowledge of the upgrade and testing of the product * Knowledge of CA-IDMS product with the z/OS V1.7 environment * Excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills (with all levels of the organization) and a very good command of the English language * Ability to work with diverse groups and work within the team environment * Ability to communicate complex ideas and subjects accurately, clearly and concisely * Ability to transfer knowledge to developers and functional teams * Proven organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to build and maintain partnerships within different business units * Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, complete important time sensitive tasks, adapt quickly to last minute changes and manage multiple projects : Function: Works independently or as a part of a team under general supervision. May coach more junior technical staff. General Characteristics . Manages and maintains all production and non-production databases. . Responsible for standards and design of physical data storage, maintenance, access and security administration. . Performs backup and recovery on Database Management Systems, configures database parameters, and prototype designs against logical data models, defines data repository requirements, data dictionaries and warehousing requirements. . This position optimizes database access and allocates/re-allocates database resources for optimum configuration, database performance and cost. Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field, or equivalent work experience.
