Position:- Systems administration and engineering for Red Hat Linux and Solaris 
server environments
Location:- NYC
Duration:- 6 Months

Detail:- 
* Working alongside a talented team, you will architect, build, and support Red 
Hat Enterprise Linux and Solaris servers, as well as support and 
 document infrastructure for various data center migration projects. 
* You will support mission-critical web applications for businesses within 
McGraw-Hill Education. 
* Using your years of production experience and excellent communication skills, 
you will coordinate with your counterparts in our Operations, 
 Database Administration, Storage, and Networking organizations.
A qualified candidate:- 
• has at least 8 years experience administering UNIX in production 
environments, ideally 3 years or more on Red Hat Linux and Solaris
• has extensive experience administering EMC SAN Storage and Veritas Cluster 
File Systems
• has Solaris 10 zones and VMWare experience
• has recent experience in performance tuning and analysis
• has excellent communication skills and produces clear documentation
• can troubleshoot problems quickly and creatively
• can work on simultaneous projects in a rapidly-changing environment
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- 
• As part of a team, support approximately 450 Linux and Solaris servers
• Architect, build, configure and support hardware, operating system, and 
applications 
• Write clear documentation and create diagrams
• Automate recurring tasks
• Help develop policies and best practices
• Respond to after-hours emergencies
• Respond to needs and questions of end-users concerning their access of 
systems resources
• Interact with and coordinate activities of cross-functional teams, including 
Development, Systems Administration, Database Administration, Network 
 Engineering, Production Support, and Operations staff
• Proactively identify gaps and look to improve overall system availability
Required technologies used in this position:-

Qualifications:-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and/or related field or equivalent 
experience
Technical Requirements:-
• Must be able to work 95% of the time on the UNIX / Linux command line
• Working knowledge of the following Protocols and Standards: HTTP, SSL, CGI, 
JSP, NFS, LDAP, NIS
• Significant experience supporting the technical components used in enterprise 
Internet applications
• Strong problem-solving and analysis skills
• Ability to analyze a problem at a system level and determine the root cause 
at a technical (detailed) level
• Ability to learn and apply new technologies quickly to solve technical 
problems
• Ability to interact with non-technical colleagues and communicate issues in 
layman's terms
• Ability to document procedures and create server diagrams for use by other 
engineers


Position 2:-

Hat Enterprise Linux servers running on Intel hardware. 
* You will deploy and support mission-critical web applications for businesses 
within McGraw-Hill Education, running on WebLogic and JBoss 
 platforms. 
* You will also design and support clustered back-office computing environments 
on internal networks. 
* Using your years of production experience and excellent communication skills, 
you will help develop policies and coordinate with your counterparts 
 in Operations, Database Administration, Storage, and Networking organizations.
A qualified candidate:- 
• has at least 8 years experience administering UNIX in production 
environments, ideally 3 years or more on Red Hat Linux
• has production experience supporting and deploying to web application servers 
such as BEA WebLogic Server, Red Hat JBoss server, Apache Tomcat 
 server, and Apache HTTPD web server
• has recent experience in performance tuning and analysisv • has strong shell 
scripting skills and experience with Perl
• is proficient in at least one programming language
• has excellent communication skills and produces clear documentation
• can troubleshoot problems quickly and creatively
• can work on simultaneous projects in a rapidly-changing environment
