* Job Description*

Under general direction of the management team, maintains systems software
and purchased systems software packages, determines and resolves problems
occurring in systems software or hardware and acts as a technical liaison to
computer manufacturers. Some programming will be required to accomplish
system to system interfaces.  Will assume on-call support responsibility on
occasion.



This person needs to have a broad, deep background in all aspects of system
engineering on a Microsoft platform, including networking, security, hosting
data-driven web applications and supporting software development processes
and tools.  Experience installing, configuring and managing Visual Studio
Team System and Project Server is highly preferred. Client may elect to hire
the resource utilized in this position after 6 months.



*Responsibilities**:*

   - Provides service to ISD client community, patients, families and
   visitors, while protecting the integrity and confidentiality of all data and
   information through physical and electronic measures.
   - Determine the cause of systems software or hardware problems, arrive at
   a solution, and implement appropriate actions to correct.
   - Install all system software, upgrades, or new releases, all utility
   software, all program temporary fixes. Perform system gens as required.  Do
   so in a manner that will not cause a major disruption to the production
   environment.
   - Assist programming personnel and operations personnel with technical
   problems and their resolution.  Provide operator or client with information
   on new or modified systems.
   - Maintain and use all appropriate technical manuals and documentation
   for the computer hardware and software installed at Information Services.
   Maintain current information on recent trends of computer hardware and
   software.
   - Write, debug, test and document any specialized programs required to
   interface with systems software or between hardware units.
   - Ensure performance considerations are designed into system
   configurations and maintain a formal methodology for reporting performance.
   - Provide on-call support (non-business hours) at established times in
   accordance with policies and procedures of the Information Services
   Division.
   - Provide clients of Information Services with the necessary procedures
   and documentation needed to operate systems.
   - Provide support as required by ISD’s Disaster Recovery Plan.
   - Additionally, this position may be required to maintain a stand by
   status as part of a rotation within the team.  This requires 24 hours per
   day, 7 days per week availability during the stand by period.  The frequency
   varies based upon the number of colleagues in the rotation.
   - Candidate must be highly motivated to follow project management,
   systems/software processes, measurement disciplines, and process improvement
   (CMMI) to improve product and services quality to achieve business
   objectives.
   - Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
   - Performs other duties as assigned.

*Individual Modality Responsibilities**:*

*Systems Infrastructure, Operations, and Engineering*

   - Conducts platform studies and performance analyses and recommends
   changes
   - Designing methods/tunes systems/servers/networks to high performance
   - Leads implementation and deployment efforts
   - Leads review of vendor proposals
   - Evaluates operating system/platform/environment/ network change
   implementation options, benefits and risks, and recommends most appropriate
   direction
   - Creates solution to resolve complex operational problems, collaborating
   with vendors and users as required, and identifying trends that warrant
   immediate attention Provides guidance to management in predicting
   performance and capacity and addressing related issues

*Systems Administration and Support*

   - Performs performance tuning, error tracking, and debugging
   - Develops and executes complex change implementation plans
   - Projects performance and capacity
   - Resolves complex operational problems and determines root cause
   - Demonstrates in-depth understanding of system/servers and utilities by
   designing and implementing configuration
   - Executes thorough disaster recovery testing procedures
   - Performs system management for complex development efforts
   - Works with development team to configure and troubleshoot applications
   - Sets up most development environments with little or no supervision
   from lead system administrator

*Operating System Programming*

   - Formulates/defines specifications for operating system programming
   - Designs, codes, tests, debugs, and documents operating system software
   for an entire computing platform, large communication network,  advanced
   system utility, or control package
   - Modifies, maintains existing operating system software using
   engineering releases and utilities from the manufacturer

*Hardware / Platform Engineering & Support*

   - Develops specification of complex platform hardware components
   - Designs complex hardware/platform infrastructure and interfaces
   - Performs complex hardware sizing
   - Troubleshoots complex hardware problems
   - Performs as hardware resource lead on most projects
   - Leads the documentation and maintenance of  hardware platform policies
   and procedures
   - Develops High Availability hardware platform designs

*Systems Technical Support*

   - Plans, coordinates, develops, and maintains operating systems,
   regardless of complexity
   - Answers complex technical questions and corrects deficiencies in
   operating systems or related software
   - Acts as project leader for projects dealing with overall operating
   system, mainframe, network, etc.
   - Acts as primary technical contact for a complex technology

*Project Management Skills*

   - Works with project manager to develop realistic work estimates,
   financial budgets, and project schedules
   - Assists and mentors others involved with project planning and execution
   - Measures progress toward goals and revises work plan accordingly
   - Reviews project deliverables for accuracy and provides assistance and
   mentoring to others
   - Proactively apprises management of issues effecting project status and
   offer solutions to solve the issues



*Via Oncology Requirements**:*

A senior-level position responsible for and collaborating on many different
critical areas:

·        Participates in architecture and design discussions relevant to
platform choices, security, networking and connectivity.

·        Tier II support, attempting to troubleshoot server issues that may
not require developer resources.

·        Installation, configuration and management of dev/test servers,
including any software tools and processes.  Also provides Via Oncology
staff with PC/laptop support as needed.

·        Acts as the build manager, performs all deployments, configures and
performs monitoring of all applications, processes and servers and manages
system backups, server maintenance, platform upgrades, etc.

·        Acts as the technical liaison between Via Oncology and our hosting
service provider, as well as potential interface development
contractors/partners.
