Web Systems Administrator contracting position in Washington DC. Rate: $60/hr Face to Face interviews are required.
Senior Web System Administrator Work in a fast paced environment managing the new infrastructure, which encompasses over 50 physical servers, and many other components. Challenging work with many opportunities to use strong problem solving skills while working with team managing the entire infrastructure from the bottom up. Rare opportunity to manage almost all components in the full stack. Skilled web operations/system administrator/engineer/webmaster needed with talents ranging from Apache server configuration, building web pages, to administering and configuring load balancers. Requires extensive experience and knowledge of managing servers that run public facing web sites; Internet applications and protocols as well as experience with relational databases, preferably MySQL. Person needs to be able to quickly understand complex infrastructures and configurations adapt and be able to solve technical problems working from the front end to the backend. Application troubleshooting skills also required. Not seeking typical system administrator has to be someone with experience outside of just traditional sys admin. Job will require being part of an on-call rotation and may require shift work. Required Skills * 5+ years experience with Linux system administration (Red Hat Enterprise Linux or similar OS). * 4+ Experience managing highly available (99.99%) public facing, front end web servers/web sites, including configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting. * 4+ years experience with Apache server configuration and management. * 4+ years experience shell scripting and/or other programming (Perl, Python) to accomplish various tasks. * 3+ years experience with Apache Rewrite engine, and using Regular Expressions to control traffic. * 3+ years experience with hands on management and configuration of F5 load balancers or similar experience. * 3+ years MySQL Database configuration and management experience. * 2+ years experience with JBoss application server configuration and management. * 1+ year experience managing/administering Content Management Systems (CMS). Plus would be working with Day Communiqué CMS . * Firm understanding and experience with TCP/IP networking concepts and principles. * Firm understanding and experience working with both hardware (Netscreen preferable) and software (iptables) based firewalls. * Strong systems and web security background and experience. * Firm grasp of web technologies, including HTML, CSS, AJAX, Java, JavaScript, Perl, Ruby on Rails… * Familiarity with various monitoring tools and experience dealing with a web site that has high SLA objectives. * Proactive thinker, that proceeds with caution, and a plan to back out if problems arise. * Ability to work well with various team members from developers, to business people, as well as be able to work solo on projects and get results. * Highly organized, efficient, and thorough. * Experience with Red Hat Kickstart or scripted OS installation methods. * Experience with Nagios monitoring or similar system. Additional Desired Skills * JBoss and/or MySQL database optimization and tuning experience. * Netscreen Firewall appliance management and configuration. * Experience with Cruise Control deployment and build management system. * Experience with ANT or Maven Java build tool. * General experience with Java development and managing systems running Java based applications. * Red Hat Network for administering systems, applying patches… * DNS configuration experience/management and firm understanding of how DNS functions. * Working knowledge and experience with version control systems, preferably Subversion (SVN) or CVS. * Experience with rsync, scp, cron, at, sed, awk… desired. * Content Management System (CMS) configuration and management experience (Day Communiqué preferred). * Apache rewriting, including using to accomplish various tasks from proxy to IP based blocking. * Hands on experience with SELinux enabled servers, including managing rule sets, and troubleshooting. * SQL experience and troubleshooting. Ideally be able to write SQL statements to check integrity of databases. Other Job Requirements On-call – job will require being part of an on- call rotation for 24x7x365 support * Shift Work – potential for off hour shift work * After Hours - job will require after hours work on periodic basis for maintenance events.
