Seeking a hands-on Oracle DBA, whose primary role will be to provide project
support toward the implementation of ESRI’s GIS and Mapping software
products.  The Oracle database runs on the IBM Power 6/AIX platform.  While
working on a project team, the DBA will support all necessary efforts in the
integration and testing of systems to meet evolving geospatial capabilities
requirements.  Primary duties of the DBA will include database and ArcSDE
administration involving spatial and geospatial capabilities, as well as
application development support.

*Primary responsibilities:*

*ArcSDE*

·         Managing and Maintaining ESRI Spatial Data

·         Support and understanding of ESRI versioning – compression and
reconciliation

·         Managing ESRI replication

·         Understanding of geometrical networks, relationship classes,
spatial indexes

·         Proficiency in ArcSDE configuration and upgrades

·         Resolve database performance issues, database capacity issues,
replication and other distributed data issues.

*DBA***

·         Conduct daily error checks and database health, monitoring of
physical resources (disk space, memory, CPU, etc.). Performance parameters
adjusted as needed.

·         Assist Application Development Project Lifecycle through migration
to production, as well as SQL optimization and post-implementation storm
support.

·         Provide Production DBA support, as needed, on a 24/7 basis.

·         Database Recoverability: Support production and development
backups and restorations.

·         Disaster Recovery Management; Define and implement Production DR
databases, administration for log-shipping/stand-by database systems.
Participate in annual DR testing for mission critical systems.

·         DBMS Software Updates; Installation of DBMS software per best
practices. Patch and version upgrade evaluation, planning and installation

·         Adherence to policies, procedures and controls especially in
regard to outage and change management, licensing, and information
protection.

·         Support audit requests for information. Include adherence as well
as testing of controls

·         DBMS configuration planning for systems physical environment,
hardware capacity planning and licensing of enterprise environment

*Experience Required:*

·         Good troubleshooting skills

·         Communication with team members

·         3+ years of arcSDE experience



*Requirements:*

The ideal candidate will be experienced in large SDE deployments and
production support for large and diverse database environments.  Strong
working knowledge of database recovery, spatial performance monitoring and
tuning, structured query language, operating systems and related tools.  A
working knowledge of UNIX is also required. The candidate shall also be
proficient in several RDBMS-specific middleware tools and utilities to
facilitate such activities as monitoring (such as Enterprise Manager),
database migration, DDL (data description language) management, and
replication; full knowledge of SQL, including programming and optimization;
ability to provide production database administration, production support
and 7 day/24 hour call-out responsibility.  In addition, experience with
other vendor RDBMS solutions (MS SQL 2005, DB2, Sybase, IDMS) is considered
highly desirable.

aggressive schedule.  Ability to establish and maintain a high level of user
trust and confidence in IT's knowledge of and concern for users' business
needs. Ability to present and explain technical information to diverse types
of audiences (management, users, vendors, and technical staff) in a way that
establishes rapport, persuades others, and gains understanding.
