Hello, After numerous times of bugging the ubuntu and the empathy people finally the problem of having empathy not being able to connect to gmail is solved. If the error is "network error" and it does not connect simply check all the boxes in advance and for server override add this "talk.google.com" and it starts working. Thanks for your support.
