It looks good to me, and I hear no complaints, so go ahead and commit
it.

We will, of course, need documentation for splice, slice, first(n) and 
last(n) virtual methods... in docsrc/src/Manual/Variables.tt2 in case 
any other volunteers care to whip up a quick patch... :-)  

I need to whack out another developer release, and hopefully, 2.08
before the end of the week (i.e. TPC6), so if we can get it in RSN 
then it'll make the next release.
