Performing an lvm vgscan says it reads all physical volumes. lvm > vgchange -ay returns ok. ls /dev/mapper lists only a crw named control.
I think I've seen a bug report about this, it may be fixed in the latest kernel. Note that 32-bit is only marginally supported these days, especially in virt; is there some particular reason you need to have a 32-bit VM?
