I've spoken with Reinier Heeres in the past about it, the plan he had in mind
back then was to move calculations into a different thread so the UI didn't
lock-up during very compute expensive calculations (e.g. a spinner visual could
indicate calculate was still working on the calculation, and a widget could be
provided to allow cancelling).
