Hi. I am writing to this list to report a possible problem in the
texmf portion of teTex. The problem exists on our system in teTeX
20011202, and I have verified just now that it also exists in teTeX
20020530. The problem is simply this:

The PFB files in fonts/public/xypic/ may be out-of-date.

I don't know for certain. But they differ from the files on CTAN:

http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/generic/diagrams/xypic/xy-3.7/type1
The ones on CTAN list detailed version info. The ones in texmf have
simpler (presumably older) comments.

This has come up because I have been experiencing alignment issues
using Xy-pic, and in the xy-pic discussion list
  http://tug.org/pipermail/xy-pic/2002-August/000060.html
it was brought to my attention by one of the authors that an older
version of the Type-1 fonts had significant problems in this regard.
This led me to "diff" the fonts between teTeX and CTAN. Unfortunately
my alignment issues exist with either set of fonts, so whether the
fonts differ beyond the comments, I don't know. But it would be a
shame for teTeX to be distributing the older versions.

Perhaps the experts can take a look?

Thanks.
Alexander Perlis
