Dear list,

it seems Adobe Reader (formerly Acrobat Reader) 6.X doesn't including the base
14 fonts anymore, but relies on the OS (or the user) supplying these fonts.
Adobe Reader now only ships with Adobe fonts. I haven't been able to find a
definite source of information, but a discussion of the same problem for
MiKTeX has some pointers:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=1054393&group_id=10783&atid=590077

The non-inclusion of the base 14 fonts, may indicate that we should start to
embed/download the base 35 fonts as default, i.e., dvipsDownloadBase35,
pdftexDownloadBase14, dvipdfmDownloadBase14 should be set to true in
updmap.cfg. Has this been considered in teTeX?

I don't subscribe to the pdftex mailing lists, but I guess some people on
this list do. Has this issue been discussed there?

Regards,
Hans

PS! For those having a Windows machine around (and Adobe Reader 6.0) can
verify this be looking into "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Resource\Font"
