umask and file permissions

Hi,

I'm trying to run

        umask 022
        texconfig-sys init
        ...
        texconfig-sys rehash

which gives two world-unreadable files:

        -rw-r-----   1 root     root          817 Feb  9 17:08 
/usr/local/teTeX/texmf-var/ls-R
        -rw-r-----   1 root     root          383 Feb  9 17:08 
/usr/local/teTeX/texmf-config/ls-R

what am I missing ?
