Hello!

I have some problems with my teTeX 1.0.6 on FreeBSD 3.3. When I ran a
test file through LaTeX, I got a message concerning missing
hyphenation patterns. I tried to start texconfig and then something
strange happened:

Determination of file type failed for mktex.opt, guessing tex.
Determination of file type failed for mktexdir, guessing tex.
Determination of file type failed for mktexupd, guessing tex.
Determination of file type failed for mktexnam, guessing tex.
Determination of file type failed for mktex.opt, guessing tex.
Determination of file type failed for XDvi, guessing tex.
  XDvi not found.
  Core dumped.

(Message are reproduced from memory, I have no FreeBSD machine here at
work.)

The core file was named kpsewhich.core. Of course all of the
mentioned files do exist and have the same content as on my Linux
platform.

So I thought of a totally screwed up texmf.cnf. Indeed, the file
contents seemed a little out-dated (no pool_free.context or other
ConTeXt-specific variables, lower memory sizes for font_mem or
buf_size, mentioning of MakeTeXPK instead of mktexpk etc.), although
the texmf.in was identical with the Linux version.

So I copied my texmf.cnf from the Linux partition, adjusted TEXMFMAIN
and TEXMFLOCAl, but the problem persisted. Again kpsewhich dumped a
core, even "texconfig confall" did not work. I am clueless now.

Thanks in advance!
