Hi all: Thanks for the various suggestions. As a temporary solution, I changed $texprog="tex" to $texprog="etex" in /usr/bin/musixtex. Now when I run prepmx (.i.e. mtx) on a file, the Debian scritpt runs tex on the .tex file produced earlier. Now I run musixtex on the .tex file and everything is OK, including the dvi file. I will have to wait for Roland to produce the permanent solution.
