Most cars that I've driven that used a fob have a bypass. I had a Nissan 370z for a few years and loved the fob. Never had an issue with it. The dealer told me if the fob failed or batteries died, there was a slot in the dash to plug it in so the push button would start. It also had a miniature key embedded in it, for the door. The fob was handy, always just left it in my pocket, push button to unlock the door and start the car.
My daughter has an Audi and to crank it, the fob has to be put into the slot in the dash, that's the push button start. Not quite as easy as the Nissan setup.
