We use it at work, it seems to be too bloated. I use both of my mac's very hard, browsing sites that i shouldn't, never worrying about it. I've never had a malware on either nor had any odd issues with them.
I know there is malware out there for them, but i just don't worry about it, due to how the security is done on the mac. I find it very hard to believe that you had malware.
