Krause Springs is a beautiful spring/waterfall/swimming hole on a cypress lined creek about 30 miles west of Austin, off Hwy 71 near Spicewood.
The 1982 and 1983 Texas Caver Reunions were held there. It's also been the venue for a small gathering of archeologists known as the Sometimes
Annual, Official Bodacious Prewitt Conference, which just completed its 37th year in August. (TCR held its 34th in October, not at Krause
Springs). Quite a few cavers and archeology types have attended both, or have been to Krause Springs on their own. If you haven't, it's worth
seeing when you're in the Austin area. When you're there, maybe say thanks to the memory of owner Elton Krause, who died Nov 15 at age 88.
A Google search for Krause Springs images will show you what it's like in good years. The waterflow and greenery are probably way down now
because of the drought.
