--- Begin Message --- There's a short, rather surreal underground video at http://vimeo.com/20918866 . It won first prize in the video contest at Hidden Earth 2011 (Britain's annual caving convention). -- Mixon

That was very cool, Bill! Thanks for the link.

Rob Eavis, the filmmaker, is the son of UIS president Andy Eavis, who I
caved with in Yorkshire and Papua New Guinea in the 1970s. Cool to see the
son follow his father's subterranean footsteps and become an accomplished
caver in his own right.

Frank, et.al,

Rob was here at ICS 2009 in Kerrville and ran Andy's computer during the ICS
banquet at the Ranch. He was a joy to work with. His dedication to good work
showed in the powerpoint show.

--- End Message ---
--- Begin Message --- In August, over thirty of the world's best cave photographers gathered, by invitation, at the Première Rencontre Internationale des Photographes de Monde Souterrain in the town of Olargues in the Haut Languedoc region in France, known for the colored aragonite, among other things, in its caves. The current issue of Descent magazine contains a number of photos that resulted from the meeting, and the magazine's web site contains links to a number of the photographers' web sites with photos they took during the affair.

Start at http://www.wildplaces.co.uk/descent/descent223_HautLanguedoc.html

In some cases you'll have to navigate within the target sites. For Philippe Crochet, see especially Monde souterrain/couleurs. Although there's a lot of other great stuff of his, it isn't clear how much else is from that trip. For Chris Howes, go to his gallery/caves and pick "caves of the Haut Languedoc." At the same place, "Olargues and its cavers" is also worthwhile, and you might recognize some of the photographers. Some of the links lead to movies made during the event, one of them in 3D (wish I'd kept the simple viewer distributed with the 2011 NSS guidebook).

You'll have to figure out how to navigate various photo viewers, many Flash-powered.

Allow plenty of time for these hundreds of great photographs. -- Mixon
