Got 'em at my house and it looks great.

Kudos to Carl and Jerry for pulling this off and getting it assembled!

Per the TSA Business Meeting at Fort Clark Springs in April, the 50th
Anniversary TC will be distributed at TCR to all TSA members of record
in 2005.

Those 2005 members who don't make it out to TCR will have their copy
mailed out after TCR.

>From the minutes:

A motion was made with various amendments to publish 150 copies of the
50th anniversary issue, free to 2005 members, distributed first at TCR
(and then mailed to 2005 members who did not get it at

TCR), available to all TSA members on line, sold to anybody else who was
not a 2005 member (at a to-be-determined by the Board cost). The motion
was made, seconded, and passed with no objections.

In the event you were a TSA member in 2005, have let your TSA dues drop
(God forbid!) and have moved, please send me your current address so I
can get it to you.

If you happen to download the online version and have decided you would
like you very own hard copy, please shoot me a request and we'll place
an additional order, in time for TCR.

Mucho gracias and have a safe and happy Memorial Day and thank a
veteran!

Mark

Greetings Texas cavers!

In the midst of numerous and sometimes tedious postings about Raptures,
Maya calendars, NaturFests, Facebook, and others of a similar nature,
permit me to interject an item directly on topic and of interest to most
readers of this list serve:

The special 50th Anniversary issue of the Texas Caver is now available!

Printed copies have been delivered to Texas and should be distributed in
the very near future.

Meanwhile, the digital version has been posted to the TSA website in the
Member's Area. Go to

http://www.cavetexas.org/index.html and use your member login.

In this instance, you have a choice of three versions, differing only in
the size of the file.

The smallest version is rather heavily compressed and the graphics are
consequently of somewhat lower quality. However, if you're not fussy
about quality or if you have a slower Internet connection or limited
disk space, this may be your choice.

The medium version is about what you are used to seeing posted for such
things and will be adequate for most readers.

The largest version (this is what was used for the printed copies) is of
substantially higher quality and will produce a very high quality
viewing experience and an excellent quality paper copy if you have a
good printer.

This was a major project and I thank all those who made the effort to
contribute toward the success of this publication.

Good caving and better days ahead!

Carl and Jerry,

Nice job on the 50th Anniversary Caver! I really have to wonder about the selection criteria for the 25 most influential cavers that you picked for the back cover, however. Any such list is certainly a risky venture, as you pointed out, but how could you omit Bill Steele and Bill Stone, both of whom have been at it for over 40 years and still going strong? It hardly seems fair.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but when I go to the Texas Caver Online
section of the Member's area, the latest issue I see is 2011 Quarter 1.  Where
is the 50th Anniversary issue online?

Nice! I "LIKE", in the real sense, receiving ACTUAL caving "news" about ACTUAL
caving in the mail.....as opposed to electronic pseudo "caving" news about
pseudo "caving" events that have nothing to do with caving except that a Caver,
pseudo Caver or two attended.

I disagree with some of the things David does and the way he does them. The
same can be said of any of us. While cavers are free to criticize, I suggest we
do so privately, constructively, and directly to the person involved, not on
CaveTex.

Also, let’s not lose sight of the actual contributions made by those we
criticize. I’ve watched David work his butt off helping at caving events. He
has organized his own event, primarily for cavers, which I know many cavers
have enjoyed. While some of his CaveTex postings are off topic and I believe
are inappropriate for CaveTex, his postings on lights, cave-related websites,
and other cave-related information, are appropriate and appreciated by many.

I am constantly impressed with the generosity of cavers. We have bought Punkin
and Deep, helped countless cave owners, and have given hundreds of
presentations and led hundreds of trips for non-caving groups. Let’s show that
generosity for one of our own by publicly praising when warranted and
criticizing constructively and privately when needed.

The major problem I personally have with cavetex is that very few people
actually post invitations to trips!

I'm not facebook savvy, but maybe there is a compromise here: Can you make
a Cavetex fan page, and in the fan page description just place information
about what cavetex is about, and how to join the listserve? I think you
could also post some caving event photos as a marketting tool.

I am "young" and I avoid facebook because of its constant and pointless life
updates of "friends" I haven't talked to in a decade. But I agree David,
this is how a lot of people search for things. The three top search engines
are, in order: Google, Youtube, Facebook.
