Greg Springer has recently used a good-quality commercial infrared camera to locate blow holes in West Virginia. See <<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RXjRzaS87Y>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RXjRzaS87Y> and <<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=760t_B-pDXY>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=760t_B-pDXY>. Subsequent discussions revealed that the camera on a cell phone or other inexpensive IR cameras are not likely to be sensitive enough for this application. It may require a relatively expensive, dedicated IR camera. Nevertheless, the potential seems quite good.

N?ow how about using it to hunt blowholes in the Guadalupes on a cold winter day, or hot summer day with that thermal camera.?
