For those of you who remember my sister Jodie, she lives outside SA these days and sent me the following after I forwarded to her the SA paper story. She's a tough bird. Louise

Wish I could see it. At least San Antonio Water System (SAWS) has said no to the sewer line through the cave. What a stupid idea to begin with. It is sewer and that is the aquifer. Does the developer want to drink his own sewer water??? I hope that the TQEC and SAWS will enforce some strict redesigning of the development and all of its streets and utilities . I think part of the development will have to be put aside and not built on. That sounds like part of the plan. You never know until the final plan is submitted what other crazy ideas the developer will have. Just needs to be continually watched. I will say this. When I lived on Parmenter St. in San Antonio, my neighbor and I took it upon ourselves to prevent a tall apartment complex and commercial businesses from being built behind our houses. This was an already planned thing before the neighbors of the area were ever notified (by law) of a rezoning plan. So we acted very quickly. The developer thought it was a done deal and was very mad at us for protesting the development at the city zoning meeting. Well, when push came to shove the developer invited us to sit down and tell us what an advantage it would be to have all this against our back yard fence. We did not budge. Then we went even further to put deed restrictions on the land stating the height of any building to be built, that it had to be single family dwellings, with lights no higher than the 1st floor and that there could be no street that directly connected two main streets of traffic. The developer gave up and eventually someone else came in and made nice homes and a well developed street plan. We were very pleased. So I know things can be done with the planning department of the city even after a PLAN has been made.
