--- Begin Message --- I bought the CD set, and was really disappointed. The whole thing was 72-dpi jpegs, the text was barely legible, and the software quit working many years ago, with no sort of update mechanism ever offered.

It was one of the weaker efforts that I've ever seen from what is usually a very high quality organization.

Toyota buffs will like the photo of a caravan of twenty-seven new white Land Cruisers the government provided for the field trip. The only cave they visited was closed due to rain (!), but the article is interesting nevertheless. Oman does have some impressive caves, including spectacular Majlis Al Jinn, a 14-acre room with three pit entrances ranging from 118 to 158 meters deep. There is a report on a trip to that cave at

Those of you who are not members of the Geological Society of America probably
are unaware of the great picture of caver Erin Lynch, in cave armor and draped
with ropes, on page 18 of the November 2011 issue of GSA Today.   She is shown
in Alaska as a GeoCorps participitant in the Tongass National Forest.   Some of
you may be surprised to see her in Alaska, knowing Erin from her caving in
Virginia, California, and Mexico, and, of course, leading the exploration of
the great caves of China for the last decade.   More of her Alaska caving was
mentioned in the Alaska Caving Issue, May 2011, NSS NEWS, supporting the work
of other long-term Alaskan cavers.

There are over 300 artist, sculptures, photographers, etc. exhibiting their work. My wife Jan, caver/artist, has drawn a series of abstract pin and ink cave images which she is exhibiting. At this years N.S.S. convention she won a Merit Award and a Honorable Mention for two of them. She is located at the Smith Road Studios, 1406 Smith Road, Suite E & F. See Yahoo map at the following address:
