Cavers, we need your help! The Texas Cave Management Association (TCMA) will be having a work day Saturday 18 February to dig out a cave (Niche Cave) on one of our properties, the Rolling Oaks Cave Preserve in Bexar County (northeastern San Antonio).
We plan to dig out a sinkhole and associated cave that is full of old ranch trash with additional sediment washing in. We need people, buckets, shovels, and other cave-digging tools. Bring your own gloves, drinks, and snacks for the work. TCMA will provide bottled water. The cave preserve is located at 224 Laurel Ridge Lane, San Antonio, TX 78253. All visitors to the Preserve will be asked to sign a liability waiver. Look for signs and park along the street. Meet at 10:00 am. We should be finished with the work by 2pm or so. Preserve Manager Ellie Watson will be on-site if anyone wishes to enter the other caves on the preserve (Chimney Cricket Cave, Obvious Little Cave, and World Newt Cave) after the dig. Bring your own cave gear. Ellie can be reached at 509-899-0007(cell) in case any one gets lost, or if you would like coordinate more details with her. She also has a map that she can send if necessary, since CaveTex doesn't do attachments. Contact her (not me!) off list at ellie.tho...@gmail.com for the map. There is no need to RSVP if you are attending. Just show up! Thanks for your support of TCMA and cave management. Jim "Crash" Kennedy TCMA Preserves Chair
