Actually Diane Rehm is out of WAMU in DC. Looks like you can get a podcast of this, too.

Cavers, this is a reminder that the 2011-2012 Cave Inventory Project at
Colorado Bend State Park will be kicking off this weekend. Most cavers
show up Friday evening and camp out. All survey teams will be organized
and sent out of camp by 10 am on Saturday morning. Camping is again
available Saturday night, and a possibility of more caving/surveying on
Sunday morning. For more information, go to the UT Grotto caver
calendar at http://utgrotto.org/schedule.asp

Someone gave me a pair of pants to repair at TCR. I'm done with them, but
I can't find a contact sheet to go with them. Who do they belong to?

Ron,

Didn't know you were a tailor but will keep you in mind if I get too big for my
britches.

The poor buggers. Have the bodies been recovered yet? ;)

From a January 2011 article about this effort, they explain it this way:

At 300 ft below the surface, the team are working in 10 bars of atmospheric
pressure. It means by channeling stream water through a simple hose, they can
fire the water they collect at ancient mud with great force - and blast their
way through.

Note also that the author calls being suspended on rope in a 130m shaft
"stomach churning".

Please...don't believe everything you read.

Think about the difference between what the reporter wrote, and what the cavers
actually told him (or her).

Cavers,

At the work session Wednesday (tomorrow), there are several empty file
cabinets, a donated office chair and some donated cave files on the lower
level we will need to move upstairs to the office. This work session will be
at the JJ Pickle Research Center on November 9. Both publication sales and
the library will be open. The door will be open at 5:00 p.m. and stay open
till we adjourn. Remember it is best to arrive before 6:00 pm and drinks are
on me.

Please come by and help out with the heavy lifting and search the files for
your favorite caves. If you have questions, please contact me at
[email protected] or the office manager, Jim Kennedy. I will be happy
to send you a link to the map of the Campus.

Cavers, we REALLY need some extra help tonight at the Texas Speleological
Survey “office” at the J. J. Pickle Research Campus in northwest Austin. We
have about a dozen file cabinets that were recently donated from an office
move, and we need to get them up two flights of stairs in building 18A. We’ll
be there starting at 5:00 this afternoon. You need to arrive before 6:00 in
order to get past the gate guards at PRC. We’ll have free beverages for
everyone that shows up. We’ll hold off on moving the cabinets until at least
5:30 in order to allow all the help to arrive. I hope we can get a few folks
willing to give up an hour or so tonight to help the greater good and the
future of Texas speleology. Directions and a map to the TSS “office” are on
the TSS website at www.txspeleologicalsurvey.org. Thanks‼!

Jim “Crash” Kennedy, TSS office manager
