I might be an Old Timer if age has anything to do with it. My first wild cave
was Frio Bat Cave near Concan. Been there numerous times but the first was 1953
at age 18. I have several great pictures of bats roosting so thickly you cannot
see the wall. They were taken from four feet away. I also assisted Jimmy Walker
when he took a great time exposure of the now non existent old wooden elevated
tracks for the steel ore car used to haul the guano from the cave. The tracks
may have been the ones used during The Civil War when mining the guano to
extract the saltpeter for the manufacture of gunpowder. A new adventure for a
city boy who always loved such things.
