An update from Mallory's Uncle Bob:

Update - Mal & a friend were hit by a car crossing the street to go to dinner.
Her friend broke his leg and went in for surgery, but he was conscious b4
surgery and said what he knew. They have already done one treatment to help
reduce swelling around her brain. They are keeping her sedated and have given
the "first 72 hrs are key" statement. I do not have any details about the
driver of the car.

I'm sure the family will let us know which Memorial Hermann when the time is
appropriate. Right now she will be in the highly controlled environment of an
Intensive Care Unit and will remain so as long as she is in a medically-induced
coma.

Note: There are a few Memorial Hermann's scattered around Houston. Make sure we
get the correct address ...

Here is what Caleb had to say a little earlier:

"She's at Memorial Herman. Maybe y'all can visit later, but she's completely
unconscious right now, and it's probably not a good idea, at least not for the
next few days. I'll keep y'all posted.

Caleb"

As for her unconscious state, I've heard from a cousin of hers that it is a
medically-induced coma. I've had first hand experience of being in one of
those, and I know they are done to manage treatment of one kind or another, so
we shouldn't be unduly concerned that she is not conscious - but we should
continue to keep thinking positively.

Mallory is our family and we all wish her recovery. Please, everyone send good
thoughts her way right now. I know Roger will keep us up to date when he has
more information. We cant really do much right now, this is a time of waiting
for healing before we can know much more. If you want to do something, post
your good wishes here and we can all come together with our love for such a
wonderful friend.

Best wishes,

Ellie

I have only limited information at the moment, so I'm nervous about dispersing
it, but active caver and Greater Houston Grotto President Mallory Mayeaux has
been in some sort of accident and is currently hospitalized. Here is all I know
at the moment, contained in a message from her brother Caleb:

"I don't remember what the GHG schedule looks like or if Mal had any upcoming
trips or meetings, but Mal will be out of commission for some time. She was hit
by a car last night and is in ICU. She's stable but banged up pretty bad. I
figure y'all will know most of the stuff she had going on with caving, and can
thus plan accordingly. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
Thanks,
Caleb"
