Caleb called. She has facial fractures, a broken nose and continued brain
swelling. At least two more days in a coma, but the brain swelling has to stop
before they awaken her. No broken bones. They won't have an update until she
comes out of the induced coma.
Feel free to post this on CaveTex and GHG - I can't do either from my phone for
some unexplained reason.

I have been thinking of Mallory all day. Thanks for the updates. I am praying
for her and her family. This must be a horribly difficult time for them and I
am happy to see their wishes respected. It is kind of them to keep us informed.

Indeed. I just heard, and my thoughts will be with Mal.

She is at Memorial Hermann Hospital on Fannin St, Houston. Still in ICU.

One of the best, if not the best trauma hospital in the country.

Post from a family friend: At last report (Monday afternoon, July 15), the
doctors are saying she might stay in ICU for two weeks, but they really don't
know. Brain fluid being continually drained now to try to keep down
swelling/pressure, and body core temp brought down to 92 degrees. She is
totally unresponsive. Family is starting to dread talking to the doctors, as
every update gets worse. Visitors are allowed, max of two in the room at one
time, but you probably don't really want to see her like this.

Kiwi gets rain: during one of several strong passing showers, I took umbrella and looked into Kiwi Sink. There were three small streams pouring into the pit. I went home and got my camera and shot a video, but one of the streams had subsided. The main drain into the sink has not had enough rainfall at the head of the drainage, but if that happens, we will see a sizable waterfall into the pit. If so, will try to climb down the ladder to see where the water is going, shoot photos.

This is Mal’s mom. Thanks to all of you for your good wishes and prayers.
We definitely need your prayers and your wonderful comments are
heartwarming. The situation is not good but we are trying to be positive.
The hospital is great. She is in Memorial Harmann. They specialize in this
treatment. She is young, and in good health. This is going to be a long
waiting process. To all her caver friends, you know you are very special to
her. Krista, you made me laugh. Mal’s going to get a free ride. I can’t get
mad at her for anything now. We also appreciate the success stories that
have been sent. The encouragement is great. We will try to keep you
updated. Vickie

Again, I think the best thing we can do is to let Mal's family know that we
are here to help. If we are needed, let us know.

Hey! Please forward this message to GHG and CaveTex. Again, my phone is
being ornery and won't send it. Thanks!

I will be at Mal's hospital at noon Fri for more tests. I plan to stop by
her room, assuming she is out of ICU and can receive visitors, when I am
done.

When you call the hospital to confirm her room number be sure to spell her
last name correctly - any wrong letter and they are clueless. I say this
because the initial thread about her accident had her last name misspelled.
Only one 'a' at the beginning, no second a after the 'y'. Took me an extra
day to confirm her location because of that.

Following is an update on the condition of Mallory Mayeux from her mother,
Vickie Mayeux. The short summary is that while her condition requires constant
adjustment, there are thankful signs of improvement. And good news such as that
her lungs remain clear, with no signs of pneumonia. Caver are united in sending
our love to the family, and we hope to hear of continued improvement.

Roger

Hi Everyone,

Today was better. Generally, her pressure stayed OK longer before needing
intervention. This morning they took her off sedation for as long as they could
and they did get an arm twitch and she was breathing on her own some.
Yesterday, they got no response, so this is an improvement. Her heartbeat got
too low so they gave medicine to raise it, but that caused her brain pressure
to go up so they adjusted things again. Truthfully, all day long they are
constantly adding and subtracting medicines, draining fluid occasionally, and
checking all sorts of things I would have never thought of. At least she is
tolerating the interventions and they are able to keep the pressure at an OK
level.

They still have her body temperature at 92 degrees. There is a problem with the
feeding tube. They will probably have to remove and replace it. This will
aggravate her body and will probably raise brain pressure that will have to be
dealt with. If they don’t do this tonight, they will tomorrow. We are still in
the peak swelling time, so we just have to be patient, no matter how hard it
is. Her lungs are clear which is good - don’t want pneumonia to develop.

Today was much calmer and things seemed more stable even with the constant
changes. The nurse, doctors, and everyone else are phenomenal. She is in the
right place. Her coworkers have been great. I am glad we did the stem cell
research. Hopefully, it will help her, but they have already helped me. They
are so many research people monitoring, talking to us, answering questions, and
giving advice. The head of the project gives me so much time, and won’t leave
until I actually thank him and send him off. When he realized there was a news
video, he looked it up. These people are very professional and smart, well
trained.

I am so grateful to all of you for all your prayers and spreading the news. I
know there are many people you have asked to pray for Mallory. She needs every
prayer she can get. We have a long way to go.

Love you all, Vickie
