Action Alert: Please sign an on-line "We The People" petition to help get
research funding for White Nose Syndrome in the federal budget.
The NSS is joining Bat Conservation International and others in requesting
President Obama to include funding for WNS in the Administration's 2013
budget.
The mechanism for doing this is a "We The People" petition, operated by
the White House (http://wh.gov/TNK). We need 25,000 names by November 25
for the staff to recognize the issue and evaluate it for the President.
The petition language is fairly general; specifics can be dealt with once
the threshold is reached and staff begins to focus on the details.

WNS is likely to be with us for some time, and this is the best way to
help ensure ongoing long-term funding. In the short-term, please donate to
the NSS' WNS Rapid Response Fund. We continue to have research funding

The Membership Committee of the NSS could use a little help.
The NSS has a Facebook page and is hoping to create a Twitter page as
well.
But we need someone to be the moderator. You're duties would include
moderating the page, and finding and posting content.
If you enjoy social networking, this is great way to volunteer with the
NSS.

Looking for ways to increase your Grotto membership?Make an eye-catching 8
by 11 handout with Grotto news, activities, contact information and drop
some off at the public library.Don’t forget to include the NSS website so
people can check us out.Does your local high school have an after school
group you could mentor?If you connect with other non-profit organizations
in your area you could end up with some cross members.Remember the NSS
Bookstore has plenty of informational brochures available to use as
handouts.You can contact the NSS office

brochures as you want.
Is this work?Sure it is.Think back; how did you first get to know about
your grotto?New young cavers make great sherpas!I may never have gotten
into dry caving if a friend hadn’t decided I needed to go caving with
him.Here I am thirty years later still caving and cave diving.Consider
ways to increase your grotto membership and increase the NSS membership at
the same time.Look for future announcements from the Membership committee
on benefits to your grotto for doing just that.
