Hi all,

The news of the passing of Rod Goke was sudden and unexpected. Rod always set
sound for TCR and for the Terminal Syphons when they played. At TCR the
Terminal Syphons are going to do a tribute to Rod. I would like at ask people
to bring pictures of Rod to TCR. I will bring a flat scanner for prints and try
to get a slide scanner. If you have digital pictures please bring them on a
flash drive.

Rod was well known and well liked. If there are digital photos, I'll be
glad to build a memorial on the TSA website. We done them before. It would
be nice to have his obituary to go with it as well.

I'm not going to belabor the point but I want to go on record (for about the
10th time) in saying that I am against having wakes at TCR. They are, at
best, incompatible both in purpose and in timeliness. Have memorial services
and the like at a different time and specific purpose event. It detracts
from both to mix them.

Also, Ron Miller is keeper of the "Dead Texas Cavers List" and needs to be
notified if he hasn't already picked up on it.

Maybe we can think of it as a celebration of Rod's life and not a wake.

Even when Rod was an integral part of TCR for the Terminal Syphons?

Seems like an appropriate place to me celebrate his contributions - at least
those associated with TCR.

Diana,
I personally did not feel Gill was dictating to us what we are to do but only
voicing his opinion and placing his vote.
My vote is, I think something really nice should be done just for Rod at his
own celebration of life.
However, I don't care if folks want to do a little something at TCR.

Jon

I didn't dictate anything. I very carefully let it be known that it was just
something I was against. And I told no one what to do one way or the other.
In 30-something years of TCR this will be only the 2nd time that death was
celebrated. I'm only an observer.

Rod gets a special pass since he set sound for the band all these years, so
he gets a shout out at TCR where no other has in the history of the party.
So if any of you expect to be mentioned in future TCRs, you should probably
take up being roadies or sound technicians.

When Ediger passes on to that vast ethereal plane, it should probably be
mentioned at some TCR gathering and there should be absolutely no smiling or
giggling alowed. Somberness and bummer riding only.

Really, it just sounds like the band wants to mention Rod and that shouldn't
take too long. No doubt they want to then officiate some foot stompin' and
hollerin' right afterwards. It might even get irreverent. It just wouldn't
be so nice to tell them not to do it.

Hopefully a few of you are coming to Houston in 2 weeks.

I would like to recommend a motel for those driving in, who
are needing an inexpensive place to stay.

Raintree Inn & Suites
3675 South Loop West
Houston, Texas, 77025

tel. 713-661-7200
fax. 713-661-7204

www.raintree.net

This place is newly built and has nice rooms for $ 40 plus $ 7 tax.

They have even nicer rooms too, for just a little more.

This location is west of the old Astrodome area.

You should be able to park right at the front door of your room.

I may stay there that weekend and can give people a ride to various
events.

If you are looking for something free, or something cheaper or something
more expensive or something closer to the events, or something near
the airports, please feel free to ask me, and I will see what I can
find.

I should be able to put somebody on the floor at the room, or pay for extra
guest if more people want to crash there.

If you want to camp at the party, I have a screened picnic canopy
that could sleep about 4 to 5 cavers.

Certified Spelunkers are now searching for Kevin Eve who has been missing 6
full days now.

It will be an interesting story if they rescue him alive from a cave.

        Say what?

I sure wouldn't want a team of Certified Spelunkers searching for me! Probably lose most of them as well.

A certified spelunker is still a spelunker, can't polish a turd.
