Although I like and support solo caving by properly experienced and thinking cavers, there was that horrible and tragic case of the guy in Black Cave, Arizona, about 10 years ago who went solo caving (without telling anyone his intentions) and his trapped body wasn't found for something like six months after he was last seen. About as grime as it gets.

With the exception of Floyd Collins' entrapment in 1925 (he wouldn't have died if the local coal miners had gone to work promptly to free him) I challenge you to point to even one single modern fatality that has occurred because a person was caving alone. Houston caver David Locklear used to celebrate his birthday all by himself way back in Airman's cave and he is still with us. Solo caving is a remarkable expression of human self confidence, ability, and presence of mind. It should not be disparaged.
