Dwight,
I thoroughly enjoyed your interesting and informative post. When it comes to
the Big Bend area, or whatever you choose to discuss, please do it more often.
I assume you currently reside in Aurora, Colorado. Tell me what activities you
are engaging in there.
Apparently, the visibly armed, young, well paid (and macho) federal officers
are of the US variety operating out of Alpine. These must also be the young
officers who don't know (or care) about the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. I
agree, best not to attempt to educate them to argue a point.
The best to you in 2011.

According to the San Antonio Express-News and Houston Chronicle, it will be
an unmanned, informal boat crossing open to the public as in the past, but
with a techno-gizmo for showing documents to officials at a remote facility.
Scheduled to open April 2012.

That's a step in the right direction. Common sense has not been
thrown completely out the window.

There was a bit on NPR this morning about it. There will be a river-worthy
ferry operated by a park concession and a hi-tek visitor's/immigration center.
Digital scanning of US passports and biometric confirmation of Mexican citizen
ID's are just some of the bells and whistles we can expect as early as 2012.
Yippee!

Just a reminder that this weekend is the regular monthly Colorado Bend
State Park karst inventory project weekend. All cavers are invited.
Please note that we DO NOT have use of the Conference Center at the Park
for the Project. All camping is at the caver camp (first dirt road to
the right IMMEDIATELY inside the Park entrance).
There will also be a TCMA meeting at the Park this Sunday. The TCMA
meeting will be at the Conference Center near Gorman Falls, and will
start at 10 am. The Gorman Falls gate will be fake locked. Please
make sure that you close it and fake lock it behind you as you drive in,
since there will be the public running around in the same area. And
please drive slowly on the Conference Center road.
Email me offlist if there are any questions.

Howdy,
I'm planning on taking Leah on a through trip in Honey Creek for her
birthday and I'm looking for a couple of cavers to join our group. This part
of
an organized trip but we need to make specific scheduling plans for the sake of
the babysitter.
Thanks,
Andy
