I must admit that I am a bit offended by Lee's comment below.
There has been substantial graffiti placed in Lava River Cave over this last
summer. 20 of us participated in the graffiti removal effort using the PCCP
sandblasting equipment. Friday we laid 3900 feet of high pressure hose and
tested it. Saturday we started from the back, where the tagging was the
worst, and worked towards the entrance. Sunday we started before 9AM and
cut off sandblasting at noon and extracted equipment. Rich Bohman
coordinated underground activities and did a great job.
The Coconino NF invested substantial resources, including law enforcement,
administrative, signage, and two on-site rangers to help.
We were able to clean all of the tags in the cave with the exception of two
closest to the entrance, when we ran out of time.
