Ok, this is enough, people are obviously passionate about these topics, but
its not related to caving directly. Take it to the OT list.
I do not want to see anymore postings on this subject.
Thanks

I hadn't heard about her illness, either. Rebecca & I had some great
times down at Govt. Canyon in years past -- she was the only person I
know of so far who's managed to make it past the tight squeeze at the
bottom of Lost Pothole. She was a great caver & fine human being who
will be terribly missed by me. Fran, I'm so sorry for your loss.

You don't want to read this e-mail, so I am putting it far down the
screen, so you will not accidentally see it.
You will most likely have heard about it by the time you read this
e-mail.
Police entered a cave near Cancun and found 6 bodies,
2 of which were female.
I am going to leave out the details, as they are too
gruesome to put here.

First, no one from the US would '.come down.' to the UK on vacation. They
would '.came over..'. Second, Jill never mentioned going to the UK when I
saw her a week ago, so I suspect she ain't there. Third, why would the
authorities not be 100% supportive? And, 4th, why weren't their passports
stolen? Passports are a highly valued commodity on the black market over
there.
It ain't so. This has been going around on FB and email for quite some time
now.

Does anyone have directions to the Mason Co. Bat Cave? Known locally for
it's awesome bat flight. I would be coming from Brady on 87/377. Do you
know if there is a good place for tent camping nearby?
I'm so sorry to hear of Rebecca's passing. I really enjoyed her company.

Pack up and come join your friends from August 2-6 in the beautiful
Champlain valley of Vermont for the 2010 NSS Convention. Don’t
miss
the early registration discount that ends June 15! You can register
securely online at www.nss2010.com/registration. Bring all your
caving buddies!
You’ll be just ten minutes from Burlington, a charming city
between
the beautiful Green Mountains and the incredible waterfront on Lake
Champlain, with every water-related activity imaginable. This
year’s event will be great for the whole family with so much to
see
and do near the amazing Convention site:
- Pre-convention camp at the Adirondacks, the Sunday Geology field
trip and a tour of the oldest granite quarries in the country.
- Howdy Party featuring Banjo Dan (www.banjodan.com) and the
Midnight
Plowboys, tastes of Vermont, a variety of local microbrew and Ben
and
Jerry’s ice cream!
- Great sessions, salons, section meetings, vertical workshops,
competitions and our NSS Awards Banquet to wrap up the week.
- Plenty of caving opportunities, both horizontal and vertical, in
unique marble, dolomite and talus formations.
- Junior Speleological Society section of the EXPO facility,
including games, art, music, talks from renowned cavers and
scientists, and JSS excursions that will include caving.
- Comfortable camping and a top-notch convention experience at the
Vermont EXPO!
- Many other activities such as hiking, waterfall tours, biking,
climbing, kayaking and sailing, diving, and lots of fascinating
tourist attractions.
WNS? No Problem - If you live outside the WNS affected area you
won’t need to bring your own personal cave gear! There will be an
extensive gear loaning station supplied by the Central Connecticut
Grotto and northeastern cavers, so we strongly encourage you to
leave
yours at home. Cavers from the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service will
set up and oversee a full cleaning and decontamination station.
The NSS Convention and Vermont should not be missed. With an
international airport, Amtrak, and bus service in Burlington,
traveling here is easy. Everything you need to know about the
convention can be found at www.nss2010.com. Don’t sit at home
alone; come join us for a week of speleological fun! CaVermont!

I want to take a couple of eight year olds to Whirlpool this weekend.
I've been trying to contact whom I think is the cave manager for weeks
but haven't had any success. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.
If you'd like to join us; I'd like to go on Sun. Thanks,

Jollyville Plateau salamander eligible for endangered list
By: News 8 Austin Staff
Photo courtesy of the City of Austin.
The Jollyville Plateau salamander is currently eligible under the Endangered
Species Act.
The Jollyville Plateau salamander is normally found in springs and caves within
the Jollyville Plateau area of the Edwards Aquifer, which is located in
northern Travis and southern Williamson counties.
The Watershed Protection and Development Review Department said the limited
range of habitat makes the salamander more susceptible to extinction.
The Save our Springs Alliance has filed a petition stating expanding
urbanization and poor water quality are the reasons for the salamander's
decline in numbers.
Resources are currently not available to list the salamander, however, the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service said the change could occur soon.

It's hard to tell how deep he goes, but is this safe? I'm no diver, and
certainly no expert, but isn't this dangerous from the bends perspective?

No, you start and end with the same air in your body that you started
with when freediving. The bends are caused by you absorbing nitrogen
into the blood that you are breathing at depth.
That's the quick, simple explanation...
