Has anyone heard from the Monterrey cavers that were supposed to join them
this weekend? I think Elizabeth and Daniel were going.

All the Monterrey TEC folks are up to speed on this, and Nico also knows about
the LdeS situation (though he is probably as immobilized as everyone in the
region by now.)
Steve Yoachum just wrote me that "Up to 30 inches of rain has now been reported
to have fallen in the Monterrey area. Wow."
That is up significantly from yesterday some time, when Erick told me that they
had 300 mm.

They are not due back until Monday. Town is within walking distance, although
the canyon is probably impassable. Their camp is in a good place. I wouldn't
worry just yet...

ok friends
I have a contact with Nancy Cuevas from ITESM and she tell me about all the
things that she and her group do for try to help a Jim and the others.
They have contact with Civil Protection, and we give at this institution all
the information that we have, they ask for the names, we need to know how
many people are there and try to localized,
I give GPS coordenadas and the trip schedule. I talked today with my brother
in law and he said all the roads in the mountain, and higway are destroyed,
the wather in the river is more dangerous than Gilberto Hurricane, they try
to pass but they cannot to do nothing yesterday.
Nancy no has communication more by phone I have the phone of Civil
protection and I will call them for have more news about ours friends.
I think they are well, they are professional in difficult situation, they
had equipment and very good trucks, and they are well.
if they have radios, do you know with channel they use? is a good idea to
try ! let me know
I tell you later.

DO NOT PANIC. The cavers at Laguna de Sanchez do not need any help from the
authorities or rescue. There's no reason to assume that they are in any
danger. They can make decisions about their safety without unrequested
assistance from others. Sending a search party will only cause them more
trouble. Some of them can walk out, others will stay with the vehicles.
Don't try to help them. They know better than we do when they need help and
they know where to get it. They just have to sit an wait (and go caving)
like everybody else down there.
Look, nobody can get to them before the roads are fixed and that will be,
coincidentally, the same time that they can drive out. The whole concept of
rescuing them is silly. They are in a better position to help themselves
than we are to help them. They are competent and some potential rescuers are
not. Just leave them be. I expect one of them to walk out and make a phone
call soon. When they do that we will know what kind of transportation we'll
need to send them to bring them back to Texas.

No road to Laguna de Sanchez to speak of, just saw the news Monterrey topped
at over
800 mm of rain, Im sure it was worse in the mountains south of the city, the
canyon that leads to Laguna is flooded I dont think the Tec cavers will be
able to get there (unless one of them owns an ultralight airplane or powered
paraglider) its useless to try and get there no matter how badass a truck
you're driving. Again they should be ok and we should not panic, worse that
can happen is that they'll spend a few wet and miserable nights.

The one thing we should not do is notify the Civil Protection authorities.
There's an emergency going on down there and they couldn't care any more
about a dozen gringos than the other couple of million Mexicans who have
been affected by this hurricane. Our people were in a good place to weather
the storm. Don't let your imagination run away with your unwarranted fears.
The gringos can walk out or wait and come out just like everybody else when
the road is put back into passable condition. We will see some of them soon,
I'm predicting. We can go down and bring the cars and gear back later.

Ok I understand Gill, I'm In NOT PANIC, I know they are proffesional
speleologist, and they can go out of difficult situation. They are well.
The people from N.L. ask me information, they want to know where they are,
because the roads are close, all the communication is bad no phone, no
internet, no nothing, maybe they can spend more time that they plan, and
need water and food for more time, there.
I can help because I have connection and try to know more about the
situation, but If you don't want I don't move nothing. OK
I will copy your message for the people in Monterrey and they decide that
they want to do.
thanks and sorry for try to help.
