Subject: Welcome to the 2010 NSS Convention!
Reply-To: 2010 <[email protected]>
Thank you for registering for the 2010 NSS Convention! We look forward
to welcoming you to Vermont.
To help with your planning, we'll be sending you some brief updates to
help ensure a good arrival and great convention. Here are a few
important tips:
On site registration and camping set up begins at Noon on Saturday,
July 31. No one will be permitted on site before then except staff.
Please do not arrive before Noon on Saturday. Thank you for your
cooperation.
Food: We've had a number of inquiries about food. A food
concessionaire will be set up on site all week, providing a variety of
breakfast and lunch fare. There is no meal plan, per se. Dinners are
on your own, except for the Howdy Party and Friday Banquet. Tuesday
evening we encourage everyone to go out for a "Night on the Town" in
Burlington, where you will find food for every taste and budget. For
cooking at your campsite, a very nice supermarket is immediately
adjacent to the convention site, and a variety of fast food and other
restaurants are across the street within easy walking distance, and
many more within a few minutes' drive.
Pets: there are NO pets allowed at the Convention site.
Smoking is prohibited in all Vermont buildings. We'll have designated
smoking areas outside - please be considerate of others.
Cave gear: We've had a number of questions, no surprise in this era of
WNS. So here's the deal: If you're coming from a WNS-affected state,
you should bring your own gear - clean, of course. If you're coming
from elsewhere - bring dedicated gear or you can borrow gear from our
gear loaning station. This will help ensure that there is sufficient
gear for all those who will be caving at the convention For complete
details see:
http://www.nss2010.com/white_nose.php
Watch for additional important information as the Convention gets
closer. If you have particular questions, don't hesitate to contact
one of our Convention co-chairs, Ken Moore ([email protected]) or
Rick Pingree ([email protected]), and they will forward it to the
appropriate person for a response.
Looking forward to seeing you all soon!

Folks,
Mountain Gear has Petzl Ascenders on sale for $55.97 from $69.95.
There are also some good deals on locking carabiners but I would recommend you
not get the self or auto locking biners
You can find them by googling Mountain Gear or maybe the links below will work.

Last week, I reported that Southwest had a deal of $ 129
out of Houston Hobby to Manchester, New Hampshire.
The price is now just $ 107. So round-trip would be $ 214
plus fees, equals $ 262.70. That is reasonable.
The problem with that deal, is you fly out on Tuesday before
the convention, and stay 14 days.
And the other problem is getting to and from the airport which
is 3 hours from the convention.
I will most likely skip the convention this year, but not because it
is in Vermont. If it were within an 8 hour drive, I would at least
show up to the Photo Salon.
Greyhound has a $ 40 ticket for the bus ride from Manchester
to Burlington. The ride back however, is too miserable to take.
