On a related note,

Have you ever noticed when caving that you can see your breath in the
air, and that
there are fine particles of dust floating in that stream of breath?
 All those unknown
particles can enter your lungs and get lodged in your lung tissue.  So, it
is a good idea to wear a dust mask when caving in dusty caves.  In some caves,
it might be better to wear a respirator mask with filter elements.

You are probably breathing just as much crap around your home or
workplace, especially
if you are mowing the yard, and even worse, if you unfortunate enough
to live near an industrial plant that is spitting out air pollution.

Ironically, patients with respiratory ailments have been confined in
caves as a form of treatment.   Maybe those caves were too humid to be
dusty?
