Langtry Lead Cave ( LLC ),

Mr. Mintion mentioned about the needles in
the back of LLC.

This is one of my favorite caves.

It was also my first real caving experience.

In 1984, I believe the UT grotto had a trip there,
but not sure what the purpose was. On an earlier
trip, they had removed a ton of rusted metal debris
from the entrance area, and I think some dead sheep
or goats or both.

I was lucky that an A.S.S. caver was invited on the
trip and he invited me. ( John Ragsdale or Freddie
Platt ? )

On that trip I met Ed Sevcik, who may have been
on his first real caving trip. And also, Bill Mixon,
Bill Elliot, Dr. James Reddell and crew, and maybe
a few other UT cavers that my fuzzy memory doesn't
remember.

On that trip, I think I made it to the Hall of Unicorns.
( Probably that was the 2nd trip.)

Anyways, after that the A.S.S. and I made maybe 10 trips
to the ranch there during from 1985 to 1987. But we
didn't always visit LLC. ( There were 2 other nice caves
that we visited. ) We were on great terms with the
landowner then.

On only one of those trips, I was down at the bottom of the
pits that Mr. Minton referred to. I only had the old
map, and I didn't see any good leads, but have always
felt there had to be more cave.

I never new about the so-called new section until today.

I presume it is a tight crawl, because I thought we
poked around in that cave pretty good. There is
quite a bit of flagstone rocks and gravel and dirt
that could be hauled out of the cave. But that would
not make the cave any deeper, right?

I hope that cavers own these 3 caves someday. I still
haven't been deep in Langtry Quarry Cave ( LQC ), yet.

I also remember that sometime in the early 90's there
was an incident were some needles were broken. I
recall rumors that I had something to do with this.
But I think they were referring to some crystals that
were in the big room. I wasn't anywhere near West
Texas when that incident took place. We didn't have
e-mail and internet back then, so I don't know what
became of the incident.

I visited the ranch during the 1994 NSS Convention,
but don't think we entered LLC.

I think I 1995, I took 2 Houston cavers only to the
big room of LLC. One of those cavers was
Susan Herpin. The other was a new GHG member
that never returned to a meeting.

Around 1998,
I took 3 Houston cavers to see the Hall of Unicorns.
One of those cavers was a Brit and the other was
a girl from Spain. We had a very pleasant trip,
and camped on the creek at Pandale. The other
caver was Chris Hall.

I don't think I have been back to the ranch since,
but all of my trips to Langtry have become just one
giant fuzzy memory all blended together.
