The Soudan Mine and Mars by E. Calvin Alexander, Jr., Ph.D. Dr. Alexander will discuss the evidence of the presence of liquids and the possible presence of microbial life on Mars using the Suadan Mine in northern Minnesota as an anolog. Dr. Alexander will also discuss some of the surface features that can now be viewed with the Martian orbiters including travertine dams and large collapse features to support his discussion. Dr. Alexander is a long long time caver as well as karst geochemist and planetary geologist. He has done extensive work on the karst of Minnesota as well as worked on the geochemistry of lunar samples. He is a professor with the Department of Geology and Geophysics at the University of Minnesota. Folks, I've seen this talk and it's a real crowd pleaser.
