Yeah, I've used those, they are interesting! And it reminded me of a
hiking trip I took with some friends. We found this very friendly,
intelligent and nice dog, he decided we were cool and hung out with us
for most of the trip. He was protective of us when he saw other people,
when he saw cattle he would round them up (at one point he drove some
into a pen). But when somebody peeled off the group for taking a dump,
he just *knew* what was going on and there was *nothing* we could do to
keep him from going and eating the stuff, I mean, we would try to hold
him, but it's like he was going crazy, trying desperately to run towards
The Source. It is kinda weird to be squatting while a dog is next to you
with hunger on his face. At least he had manners and waited till you
were done. :)

Sleazeweasel's excellent description of a Belizean outhouse over a
lagoon reminds me of the pristine-looking outhouses we encountered at
Joya de Salas in the Sierra de Guatemala in Mexico in the late 70s.
When we arrived in the village and saw these outhouses sitting over the
bare karst but with no hole underneath, we assumed they were not being
used. Later when the need arose, we asked the locals where we should
go, and they pointed to those same outhouses. Well, okay, off we went.
As soon as anyone approached the outhouses, the local pigs would come a
runnin! They gathered hungrily in the space below the seat, grunting,
jumping and snapping to catch the treats. You certainly didnt want to
hang too low there! Seemed like a very efficient system. ;-)
